Unstaged is a five-part concert series featuring various artists, presented by YouTube, American Express and VEVO. Each performance included unique online components, such as voting for the encore performance or the ability to switch camera angles. The series began with Arcade Fire, who performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 5 August 2010.
Duran Duran took the stage at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles during The All You Need Is Now Tour. The show was directed by David Lynch and began with a string performance of “Return To Now” as the introduction to “All You Need Is Now”, streamed live in black & white for artistic effect to internet viewers.
Three songs into the show and Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance joined Duran Duran onstage for “Planet Earth”, with strobe lights flashing he sang the first verse and contributed throughout. “Notorious” soon followed, sung as a duet with The Gossip’s Beth Ditto. Duran Duran then played “Blame the Machines” for the very first time.
Later “Leave A Light On” was performed with Le Bon playing an acoustic guitar, as images of nails being hammered were projected. David Lynch ignited the viewers with sparks for “Girl Panic!”, featuring guest Mark Ronson on guitar.
The encore saw Kelis return to the stage for the second time for “Come Undone”, which was followed by a Bond medley featuring Ronson. The evening finished with all the orchestra of performers gathering for a collective bow.
