Lucca Comics 2012

Rebecca Dautremer

Amazingly suspended between modern surrealism and childhood stories, we met French artist Rebecca Dautremer during Lucca Comics and Games 2012, where she has a special exhibition at Lucca's Palazzo Ducale, with some of the most important illustrations and paintings from her productin, from Alice in Wonderland to Cyrano.

“Wow! I did not expect to be so famous here in Italy. It's such a great pleasure for me! My art is directed to children but adults too, and I release everything with watercolours, also the illustrations for my Cyrano, for wich I also took some draps to print them directly to my illos. Nowadays I'm very busy, working to organise a special exhibition in Paris for illustrations based on Baricco's novel 'Seta' from the book I've recently released in France. I'm also working on The Bible's re-interpretation: it'd be a laical work, despite I'm religious, and the aim is to give a brand new and modern point of view for the sacred stories from The Bible. I'm also working for a new animated film wich will be my secnd one, after the one recently awarded at the Annecy FF by critics. My public? Of course it's a children one, mostly girls, but not only! During my creative sessions I never think about a specific publi, I have to admit!”
