THE CHARIOT
– interview –

A few months ago The Chariot were on tour in Europe. Before dinner and during the soundcheck of the other band we sit in the garden of the club to ask quickly something to the singer Josh. Sometime we’ve to scream to hear what we say but something is sure: the Chariot will continue to be a driving force on hardcore punk scene.

Hi guys, how’s going your European tour and what about Italy?

The tour is going really well and people are great. We had the first date yesterday, Rome is amazing. For us, Americans, nothing at all is like Rome , everything is wow, I mean. Really amazing! The show was good too, people were going crazy, a Saturday really exciting.

I know you played in Spain and Portugal, I’ve never seen a show in that countries… How was play there and what about the people attending to your show?

There were really a lot of people and the shows were good. In Portugal we had enough time to see the city and Lisbon is a good place but we like more Rome, of course!

Playing often like you, means living a long time in the van. For many bands it is an important thing for growing up. What’s your opinion about this?

We definitely love touring, I don’t care the van, the bus, if we have the hotel or not… we just want to play shows. I love all of the shows. Sometime we share the van with other bands. Unfortunately in Europe we don’t. I tell you the truth: sometime it is harder to share the van… you don’t know where other bands are coming from, the ideas, you don’t know anything about them! Sometime it’s difficult but after all I think is cool.

What’s the meaning of playing hardcore today? Is it still very important the message of that kind of music, in your opinion?

I believe in hardcore and in heavy music, I play for this reason. It comes from a world of passion. For us, for The Chariot, is still passion and freedom, and this passion has to be heavy. We couldn’t say the same words playing an acoustic guitar. That’s’ why we’re heavy, and that’s why I scream.

There is a particular meaning or a message in your lyrics?

All my lyrics are different, each song could be personal, could be whatever by own. You know I’m strong believer, I’m a Christian. The words comes from the hope I guess. For my own personal experience is struggle, is accomplishment. I sing about this.

What about the band’s future?

After this tour we’ll go back to the States and probably we’ll start writing and maybe recording, depending if the writing process is good. It’s sure that the only reason to record again is playing more shows!
