Strong, icely, without pity and regret: Richard Kuklinski has been one of the worst serial killer in USA history, also known for being adopted by Italian Mafia thanks to his attitude to kill without asking and in a short time.

Director Ariel Vromen and actor Michael Shannon, interviewed by King's road magazine at the Venice Film Festival 2012, told us his sad story, at the bases of the new mive 'The Iceman'.

Michael Shannon: “I'm an actor, you know. In every movie I play I love to capture suplicity in my characters, mostly in the stranger and bad ones. About the movie Winona (Ryder, playing Kuklinski's devoted wife) told the press she was worried about me, laughing. I don't think I'm terrifying, maybe for James Franco I am (Franco is fastly killed by Shannon, in the movie). What attracted me most reading and informing about Kuklinski's life was his life as a child, full of violence and fear because his original family. As an adult I think he tried to have a normal family, adding violence outside that. He might have thought he could not have any other talents except for anger, but never on innocenta, women and children. Playing such people makes me disconnected from rality: you have to be a person who's bad, but complicated in his personality. Being a father has helped me more to play this role, and I have to admit that if everyone would hurt my daughter I should be violent, speaking to absurde. All of us have to control anger and take it easier, somehow. Seeing him speaking about his family maked me thought these where the only love of his life. What if he'd had a different family background? Would he be a better man as an adult?”

Ariel Vromen: “everything went easier working with Michael. He doesn't speak much at work, but he's an extraordinary actor, able to understand his role and the whole story. We've been working on this script and movie since 2009 I think, reading books and watching documentaries on Kuklinski's life. This is not an explicit violent movie, it'a more something like a mafia movie, but into the protagonist's life, loves and personality. Richard Kuklinski's smile, in reality, hit me, it was something able to capture you and penetrate into your mind. We could not speak to his wife, nor informing her personally about our cinema project: she changed name ans country after his husband's arrest, but I have one of his daughters on Facebook and she told me she's not interested in watching the movie about her father. I think it's something fearful in her memories.. “
