Known in Japan as “Gunnm”, the famous manga series created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990, and originally published in Business Jump mag, “Battle Angel Alita” is ready to become a movie cult, directed by Mr. James Cameron.

The series, and the movie too, is set in the post-apocalyptic future and tells about Alita, a beautiful cyborg who’s lost all her memories and is found in a garbage heap by doctors who rebuild her body and brain.
She’ll start remembering only one thing: the cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst, which wants her to become a bountyhunter.

Alita is a creation from an age of despair. Found by the mysterious Dr. Ido while trolling for cyborg parts, Alita becomes a lethal, dangerous being. She cannot remember who she is, or where she came from. But to Dr. Ido, the truth is all too clear. She is the one being who can break the cycle of death and destruction left behind from Tiphares. But to accomplish her true purpose, she must fight and kill. And that is where Alita’s true significance comes to bear. She is an angel from heaven. She is an angel of death

About Cameron’s work, he revealed that he’s already started the pre-production work (before the
first ciak he’ll finish working, maybe on the 2 sequels of “Avatar”), and probably the movie will be released in 2013.
Cameron’s movie would be a live-action-science-fiction adaptation of the first three volumes of
the manga series, and he’s planning a complete trilogy if the film will be successful.
