Starring Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder, Chris Evans, Ray Liotta and  James Franco, Ariel Vromen’s new movie (out of competition at the Venice FF 2012) is based on the true story of Richard Kuklinski, well known serial killer adopted by italian mafia who killed more than 250 people between 1954 and 1985.
Director Ariel Vromen told:
I always responded to the duality of Richard Kuklinski. In one life, he was an attentive husband and father and in the other he was a professional hit man working for the Italian mob. There is just so much inherent suspense in this story that I couldn’t get it off my mind, particularly when you consider that it’s all true. It’s an epic story about a character that kept his true identity from his loved ones for decades in order to maintain those relationships. He needed that love in order to hold on to his sanity and to feel normal, despite being anything but. The Iceman is a fi lm with intense characters with great moral fl aws that still manages to resonate entirely with the audience.”

The Iceman is an extraordinary biopic mixed with some kind if thriller and mafia movie with psychologichal bases, excellently directed and acted (amazing performance by Michael Shannon, first of all) and so real to the story of Richard Kuklinski that Shannon truly seems the beloved-father-husband-killer.
Masterpiece, the question is: why not in competition?
